In
the rift valley close to the Rwenzori Mountains
and the border of the Democratic Republic of Congo
lies the picturesque Semiliki National Park. The
vegetation shares many similarities with the great
Ituri forest. Tropical low land species can be
seen here.
Local tribes
in the area are the Bakonjo and the Bamba pygmies.
The main features of this park are the hot springs.
The adjacent
Semiliki Game Reserve has a beautiful main lodge
with a luxurious tented camp. Night game drives
are also conducted to see nocturnal species.
This reserve
is also home to the rare Shoebill stork.
