There
are a number of caves in Uganda and historically many
of them served as shelters for Iron Age man and the Bushmen.
These caves are easily accessible as they occur most in
western and southern parts of the country. The most important
being Ngarama other small caves are Nyaksura cave in Fort
Portal, which has a waterfall running inside the cave.
Interesting
bird species and perennial crater lakes can be observed
on the way to the caves. Other caves on the shores of
Lake Bunyonyi harbour a number of unique bat species.
Close to the Mparo tombs in Hoima more caves can be explored.
